Biography

Sam is a painter and draughtsperson with a BFA in Studio Arts and Art History from Hamline University. Their primary subject is the landscape and cityscape, favoring abstracted drawings or paintings using watercolor or oil. Like every good neurodivergent queer person, they also have about forty other creative interests, including graphic novels, writing, digital art, embroidery, ceramics, and backyard chickens.

Sam grew up in rural Minnesota on a farm, frequently playing outside and pretending the green and misty hills were actually in Ireland. They grew up drawing and painting from a young age, and eventually decided to pursue formal training in college. They since have attended workshops at Ballinglen Arts Foundation in Co. Mayo, so they can stop pretending. Years in the countryside continue to drive their passion for the landscape.

Sam currently works as a psychotherapist with young children and their parents, and is working towards creating a life that allows them more time to create and engage in the artistic world.
