🚨 Join Us in Remembrance and Action 🚨

On Saturday, August 10th, from 9 am to 12 pm noon, Columbia Heights will be adorned with a powerful symbol of our community’s road safety challenges. In collaboration with Art to Change the World, we invite you to participate in a transformative event along Central Ave.

Red Ribbons for Remembrance

Over the past five years, Central Ave has witnessed 270 traffic accidents, ranging from minor incidents to tragic fatalities. Each of these incidents will be marked with a red ribbon, carefully placed by volunteers like you. Fatal accidents will be honored with larger ribbons, serving as poignant reminders of lives lost.

This isn’t just about statistics—it’s about our community coming together to raise awareness and advocate for safer streets. By visualizing the impact of these accidents, we hope to inspire change and promote responsible driving habits.

**How You Can Participate:**

Recognition

We are thrilled to recognize MnDOT’s advocacy, which has secured $10 million to improve safety on Central Ave NE. While we anticipate some inconvenience when Central Ave is rebuilt in the future, we understand the importance of these changes. This performance art piece will visually represent the numerous accidents that have occurred in the past, underscoring the urgent need for the improvements that MnDOT and the City of Columbia Heights will provide. Together, we can make a lasting impact and create safer streets for everyone.
